Providers define how uptime is calculated. AWS Supply Chain measures availability in 5-minute intervals, deeming an instance “Unavailable” if all connection requests fail during that interval. The Monthly Uptime Percentage is calculated by subtracting from 100% the percentage of 5-minute intervals in which the service was unavailable .

Code42 uses a simpler formula: total minutes of Availability divided by total minutes in the month, less scheduled maintenance, multiplied by 100 .

Calculating the Credit

If the provider falls short of the commitment, the customer receives a credit—typically a percentage of the monthly fee for the affected service.
